Oppede le Vieux​

Winding out of the gorgeous Oppede le Vieux the walk starts with a deceptively easy start before a steep ascent up the face of the Luberon​

Once the ascent is complete a well earned pause affords views of the dramatic valleys over either side of the peaks of the Massif du Luberon

The descent is no less stunning & steep. A fresh drink in one of the many water holes in the old village is a well deserved reward

Gordes to Abbaye de Senanque

The walk begins with a Roman stone lined road that transports us to another era. Olive trees line our path on the Provencal idyll walk. The unbalanced stones can be challenging, good shoes are recommended

The colours and scents of Provence surround us and we plunge into a wooded forest that leads to the Abbaye. Recent renovations render the ancient Abbaye spectacular as it stands in solitary spendor overlooking the wide stretch of lavender fields that span the valley before the monastic buildings

We weave along the river valley that follows the valley back towards Gordes before rising to follow a path lined by bories, drystone structures that were used as shelters by shepherds

A hike into Fontaine du Vaucluse from Lagnes
Duration: 4-5 hours, 12 kms

A challenging hike of steep ascents and rough footed descents over the hills and through the valleys between Lagnes and the source of the Sorgue River that sills majestically out of a cavern in the rocks
We picnic at the abandoned castle high above the village of Fontaine de Vaucluse
The village of Fontaine De Vaucluse is often busy but steeped in poetic medieval history and the source of the river is worth a peak
The return route leads us through some of the prettiest paths in the regions until we arrive at the picturesque village of Lagne

Dentelles De Montmirail​

Two treks possible: Duration: 6-7 hours, 14 kms or 3-4 hours, 7km
Difficulty: Both are challenging: 7/10

Between the earth and the sky…Some places remind us of the full majesty of nature. On the cliffedge of the Dentelles de Montmirail perspective can be gained of our place in time and space
​
This is a stunning walk. At the start the path launches straight up the mountain, through winding forest trails bringing you to the foothills of the imposing Dentelles
The path then hugs the cliff edge, a head for heights will help here. Hands as well as feet are often needed over the next hour of the hike
​
Once the Dentelles have been traversed the hike continues on the other side of the rocks, the light changes, the feet are weary but vigilance is still needed, loose stones can make the footing precarious
​
Frequent breaks to catch your breath will provide you with pauses to marvel over the stunning panoramic views
​

Gorge Du Badarel

A stunning hike, with short and steep ascent in a wild gorge, filled with the herbs of Provence, thyme, rosemary and majoram, surrounded by delicate butterflies in the warmer months
​
As the valley opens up panoramic views over the valley of Cavaillon and Mont Ventoux bring delight. As the path hugs the rocky crags of the cliff, the perspective changes with the frequency of the foliage. The dramatic and steep descent requires the sure footing of a mountain goat

Rocher de deux Trous

A stunning walk above the village of St Remy, made famous by Nostradamus and Van Gogh
​
The clear rock of the Alpilles contrasts with the rugged foliage of the Provencal shrub, rich in the scents and herbs of the season. The tall pines offer shade and the 360 views of the region are stunning
​
From the elaborate Greco-Roman remains of Glanum we will wind our way upwards towards the rocks of the Alpilles. Time and the mistral have carved holes in the white cliffs affording views over the Valley of Avignon all the way to Mont Ventoux

Gorge du Regalon

A magical trail at the base of a dramatic gorge. Birdsong regales us enroute and all the scents of nature feel very close in the narrows of this path

Hands as well as feet are needed at times in some of the craggy passes

The narrows of the gorge are followed by the majesty of the Luberon as we mount the rocky mountain face to picnic in the sun
